Régates Royales 2015 Highlights
The first edition of this regatta series was held in 1929, in honor of King Christian X of Denmark, who was at the helm of his very own full-rigged ship. Nowadays, the aces of the high seas have replaced the crowned heads, but the original spirit remains intact: elegance, competition and excellence.
Without any help from automatic instrumentation, the crews outdo each other in talent and fervor in their efforts to carry off the coveted trophy.
This gathering of single-hulled boats in the fabulous Bay of Cannes really is an extraordinary sight. The most illustrious full-riggers from all over the world come to do battle - boats like the famous Manitou that belonged to President JFK.
From our selection of apartments situated around the old port and Le Suquet, you will have an unbeatable view of the fleet and getting down to the quayside takes only a couple of minutes on foot. From there you can study, at extremely close quarters, the exquisite purity of line of these master-works of teak and varnish.
Carried along on a wave of sporting and popular success, the 2013 edition of this mythic race brought together almost 200 sailing ships under more than twenty national flags. Boats from the Caymans, Argentina, Malta, or closer to home, Italy, England, Switzerland and of course France, all converged on Cannes.
"This event has grown more and more important both in terms of the quality and beauty of the boats and of the caliber of the competing crews. For the 35th edition, we had more nationalities represented than ever before and more boats of over 50m in length."
